There are ways to make your cable or DSL connection faster. They require changes to your registry, and depend on your operating system. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I strongly suggest you back up your registry and check out pages like SpeedGuide.net.
These work for me on my Windows 2000 setup...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Finally, in the following key, you'll want to find the adapter listing that contains your NIC card settings. It often is the biggest and most detailed key with subkey info.
Once you find it, add:
MTU - 1500
Of course, rebooting is usually required for this stuff to take effect.
